A person who has an addictive personality is somebody who is very sensitive and finds it very difficult to process and manage his/her emotions. There is almost as if an inability to do so. An inability to identify, express and deal with emotions . In such a person there can be incidents pushed back into the subconscious by suppressions and repressions of incidents that have proved to be painful but the emotions of which linger on. There can be displacements of and projections of these emotions .
The aim of residential treatment for those afflicted by addiction to alcohol and drugs is to provide tools to deal with emotions. The past unresolved issues are looked into made aware of and aided in dealing with . The environs provided for this is accepting, non judgmental, compassionate and loving. The various processes like counseling, meditations and writing. The writing in a technique that enables the mind to separate the emotions from the incidents making one capable of looking at incidents realistically. All the processes enable the suppressed and repressed incidents to surface be dealt with.
However there can be several instances that the person does not want to face and deal with or has forgotten it in the subconscious dredges. Every issue left unresolved is a window left open for an emotional upheaval which if not dealt with correctly is a window open for a slip or relapse.
In such situations we have found Regression therapy under the able guidance of a trained and experience therapist to be most helpful. In clinical hypnosis, the person’s conscious mind is present and aware of all that is happening. It is a myth that under hypnosis the person undergoing the process is under the control of the hypnotherapist.
Our experience –
The clients who have gone through regression therapy have been able to consciously look at incidents that were painful and they did not want to deal with – like death of a parent- grief that they were holding on to, deep rooted resentments held , abuse, relationship issues , phobias, fears. The conscious mind sees all these suppressed and repressed incidents like a third person. At times past lives are seen experiencing which, a deeper understanding of the current life surfaces. There can be physical pain or numbness that can be experienced in different parts of the body during the session depending on what emotions are being held on to . The accepting and safe environs enables sharing with the therapist that aids in the releasing, healing and letting go process.
After the therapy sessions , of which we recommend minimum three, every client has experienced a shift in internal energies , a sense of relief, lightness and peace. Childhood phobias have disappeared overnight.
In the counseling sessions following the therapy, the clients have been willing then to face issues they were evading and avoiding , share them and deal with them openly with the counselor.
We have seen great results in relapse prone individuals where it was very difficult for them to be willing with to deal with issues.
Regression therapy should be avoided for those suffering from mental health ailments like psychosis, schizophrenia, clinical depression etc. as it can aggravate their conditions .
Thus alternate healing processes in concordance with counseling and meditation enable the clients to get beyond their mind towards recovering and healing in the truest sense.
